The Language Centre, Ziauddin University, is seeking full-time instructors to teach English for Academic Purposes. The successful applicants will contribute to the teaching and learning of English to students enrolled in different undergraduate and Diploma programs at the University, with the ultimate goal of securing success for all students to study through the medium of English at the University. They will also be required, from time to time, to plan and deliver tailor-made courses for external clients.
The following key responsibilities can be adjusted as per evolving needs of the program(s).
Teaching and Curriculum Development
Teach intermediate and advanced levels of English (including English for Academic Purposes and English for Specific Purposes) and provide supplemental instruction/support for post-graduate students (approximately 16-20 contact hours per week).
Develop a coherent curriculum, materials and teaching and assessment strategies for online teaching of all credit-bearing English language courses in different colleges of Ziauddin University and external clients.
Set challenging teaching and learning objectives that are relevant to all students in their classes, and use these teaching and learning objectives to plan lessons, and sequences of lessons, showing how they will assess students' learning.
Monitor attendance and student behavior, and evaluate student performance.
Select and prepare resources, and plan for their effective organization, taking account of students' interests and their language and disciplinary backgrounds.
Complete course syllabi and prepare course files according to the University’s Quality Assurance procedures.
Provide students with periodic progress reports each semester (where there is more than 1 semester of English courses).
Develop a coherent Supplementary Support Program for English Language Enrichment needs of Post-graduate students at Ziauddin University.
Maintain communications with the Coordinator Language Centre and relevant College Principals or their nominee about student performance.
Liaise with the university’s faculty delivering credit-bearing courses to ensure that all students are supported in the critical reading, writing and academic skills to achieve their potential.
Provide professional development training sessions as needed to the Part-time or visiting faculty teaching the academic credit-bearing courses in various University programs.
Engage with and contribute to subject committees and projects across the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences (FLAHS), as required.
Attend and participate in scheduled meetings as arranged.
Participate in new student orientation, and other relevant FLAHS events.
Assessment and Advising
Assist with testing and placement of entering and, as necessary, exiting students.
Manage assessment tracking for all ZU students.
Assist the Center Director in holding mid-term advising meetings to support the overall academic achievements of students.
Maintain a minimum of two office hours per week for student consultations throughout academic semesters.
Credibility and Communication
Master’s Degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related field is required.
High level of proficiency in both spoken and written English
Solid experience teaching English for Academic Purposes in a university setting highly desirable.
3-5 years equivalent teaching experience at secondary/post-secondary or university level.
Working knowledge of current philosophy and teaching practices in TESOL.
Demonstrated ability to use a variety of active and student-centered teaching methods.
Working knowledge of MS Office and platforms for online instruction.
A relevant language teaching qualification (such as CELTA, the Cambridge English Language Certificate for Teaching to Adults) or its equivalent is mandatory for Masters’ Degree holders in related fields.
